- Eii SB : One Throw Never Headed in Chelsea Leads Roman Rocket by Two And One-Half Lengths as 21,826 View Atlantic Card ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., Aug. 19. Henry H. Hechts One Throw, a four-year-old Some Chance colt, attained winning form for the first time this year when he scored a front-running victory this afternoon in the featured Chelsea Purse. Houghton P. Metcalfs Roman Rocket was beaten two and one-half lengths while finishing second by a neck over Craigwood Stables Faraway. Performing before another banner weekday crowd of 21,826, One Throw was timed in 1:46 while bringing .60 to his numerous backers. Jimmy Stout, who starts a ten-day suspension tomorrow, completed a saddle double atop One Throw, having accounted for the fourth race astride Senator Mathis. One Throw, who accounted for Hialeahs Everglades as a three-year-old, has been lightly campaigned this year, starting only three times prior to the Chelsea. He had improved steadily in these outings, which accounted for the abundance of support he received today. Favored by Inside Post Position Favored by an inside post position in the mile and a sixteenth test, One Throw assumed command immediately and was taken under steadying restraint after having established a clear lead. A. P. Mer-gardts Apsley was in closest pursuit early but gave way badly on the final turn as Roman Rocket took over the runner-up position. The latter responded well when roused entering the stretch, but the bid merely enabled him to draw clear on the others, as One Throw continued well in the van. Having lodged his. bid without success, Roman Rocket faltered in the final furlong and was all out to save the place over Faraway as the favored One Throw coasted to victory. Fourth position was filled by M. G. Dohertys Grandma Josie. The disappointments in the race were Sungiow and Picador, who were second choices as the Brookmeade Stable entry. Picador displayed brief speed from his outside position and brought up the rear, as Sungiow failed to enter serious contention and finished tenth in the 12-horse field. Nick Shuk, by virtue of his victory on Profizano, became the leading rider at the meeting with nine victories, one more than has Sam Boulmetis. Profizano, who raced for D. D. Schreiber, scored in easy fashion while taking the six-furlong fifth race in 1:13. He returned .80. as the favorite and scored over S. P. Sticklers Sterling Son and Newtondale Stables Bridge OSighs. JAMES FITZSIMMONS Saddled his third straight Diana Handicap winner when Belair Studs Sabette accounted for yesterdays renewal of the Saratoga prize.
