OISEAU BLEU, always within easy striking distance, went to the front when ready inside the stretch and gradually drew clear. PITLOCHRY responded readily when set down for the drive and closed with good energy. VALTIST held a clear lead when settled for the stretch run, faltered when challenged and was unable to withstand the top ones. SMOKED HAM drifted out extremely wide on the final turn, but finished determinedly when straightened. FANCY LIVING lacked early speed. CROSSED SWORDS came to the complete outside for the drive, but rallied too belatedly to become an endangering factor. DESERT WIND II. dropped from contention soon after the start. VENZY quit. NOVEL REQUEST, a sharp factor from the start, reached the lead between calls after disposing of KADER, regained command inside the stretch and lasted to outgameAVON LADY. The latter, forced to take up slightly when in close quarters during the stretch run, closed determinedly when clear, just missing. BATTLE MOUNT held a slight lead at the furlong marker, but faltered when punished and was unable to cope with the top ones. NEW LIBERTY failed to make up appreciable ground. PEACE MISSION quit. MIGHTY SON was blocked when starting his stretch bid-and was unable to recover. KADER gave way suddenly after six furlongs. KWANGO refused to break with his field. PROCTOR, sluggish during the early running, responded to adept handling after being guided to the outside and was up in the final stride to outgame GUSTO. The latter raced ETERNAL MIKE into defeat to retain a slight lead at the furlong marker, then held on tenaciously in a sharp effort. ETERNAL MIKE, much used early, had little left. MY SHOEMAKER moved up menacingly leaving the final turn, then flattened. BIG PET quit. PETER ARNOLD showed nothing. BUSY BLUES failed to stay while racing between horses. The latter closed with good energy and, though unable to overtake the winner, easily prevailed over the others. NIRINGO alternated in pressing and setting the early pace, but flattened when subjected to stern punishment. INCHIN was outrun. GASCONY quit. MILANZA was through early. RIGHT DOWN raced in nearest pursuit of the leader for three furlongs, forged to the front entering the stretch and, under brisk urging, maintained a safe advantage over BLACKWAY. A claim of foul against the winner by the rider of DARK RULER for alleged interference on the turn was not allowed. BLACKWAY worked his way forward to obtain a contending position nearing the furlong marker, came fast when shaken and closed with good energy. DARK RULER, carried slightly wide on the final turn by the winner, finished fastest of all when clear and was steadily wearing down the top ones LENNY GALE tired. SHIMKE lacked the necessary rally. AMBIGUOUS and SILVER RAB were outrun. STACK appeared to attempt to pull himself up slightly leaving the gate, then drifted out on. the far turn. DIGNITARY never was prominent. BANJ0IST slipped through next the rail to gain a contending position on the final turn, responded readily when roused for the final test and closed with good energy. CONTY BAY, forced to take the complete overland route when starting his belated rally, finished determinedly. FIFE AND DRUM had no apparent mishap. TOP BET, under steadying restraint during the early running, came out to the middle of the track for the stretch run and was up in the final stride to outfinish ALWAYS HOME. The latter made the pace to the furlong marker under clever rating, then held on determinedly in a sharp effort. MERMAN, sluggish early, closed with a belated burst of speed, and rapidly was getting to the leaders. CHASED AGAIN moved up boldly entering the stretch, but flattened when punished.
