Mister Plucky in Top Fairmount Park Sprint Fast Norwine Racer Vies With Seven Opponents in Dupo Purse By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Coliinsville, 111., June 23. — Claiming races dominate the nine-race card for the mid-week card Thursday night when eight of the races are of the claiming variety and only the sprint fashioned for two r-year-old maidens being the exception. Main attraction , on the card is the seventh, named the Dupo Purse, which is for ,500 claimers to vie at six furlongs. This sprint affair drew a speedy field of eight and, from the way the race shapes up, the main contention appears to lie between Mister Plucky, • Spicy Belle and Doc Wolfe. J. W. Norwine, a local sportsman, is sending his four-year-old gelding, Mister Plucky, out to try for his first victory of the meeting in the featured event. This will mark his seventh start thus far without success, but he has been pitched against some mighty tough company and, now that he is dropped back where he belongs, he should have a better chance at annexing winning brackets. The Norwine sprinter will have 114 pounds up for this test and, with his early speed, rates good with the opposition. Spicy Belle, from the Bell Acres. Farm stable, is also dropping down several notches for the test in the Dupo. six-furlong dash. This four-year-old filiy was a strong-finishing third in her Jast outing against ,000 claiming type sprinters, and should rate a good chance at the top money in the ,300 purse. Of her four races thus far at the current meeting she has ran in three sprints and one route route affair, all of which have been good efforts. The Bell Acres Farm filly will carry equal weights with Mister Plucky, 114 pounds. Out after his second victory in a row is W. G. Reynolds four-year-old colt, Doc Wolfe, who was returned the winner of a six-furlong dash against ,000 claimers. His winning margin was only a half length over Spizerinktom and Teddy Chick in 1:11% with 116 up. This was the Reynolds sprinters sixth start of the meeting and his only win. He has good early speed and should be right there with the first two mentioned from start to finish. Completing the Dupo field are Snow Wave, Price-Is-Right, a recent winner of a cheap claiming race; Okla Belle, Barbie B, and Hill Boots. Abolere, from the stable of M. White-book, provided one of the closest victories of Tuesday nights racing, when he just managed to get up in the final stride to outgame Leslie Halls Boston Bull to "win the Columbia Purse, the feature race of the program. The Whitebook five-year-old gelding was making his fourth start of fcthr niTTP"* mtincr wVipti Vip fltinpypH Viig guidance of jockey Ralph Sanabria, Abolere was taken off the early pace, then, when ready, moved to the outside rounding the stretch turn, after which Sanabria had his liands full to get the son of Revoked up in time to nose out his opposition. Boston Bull was making a strong bid for his first victory of three starts, but just wasnt good enough to hold Abolere at the wire and finished a short head in front of Red Rudolph, who lasted to get third money after having set the,|ce to the last 70 yards. Abolere, being the favorite, paid his many backers among the 6,300 fans in attendance a .40 mutuel. Winning time for the six furlongs was 1:11%.
