► Ten Juveniles Go In Chillicothe Purse Rouse Entry of Beta Ray And Jolly Dolly May Rule Favorite at ThistleDown THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 23. — The Chillicothe Purse at five furlongs will bring out an evenly matched band of 10 two-year-olds in ThistleDown s featured offering for . Thursday. Most of the scheduled starters in this event have already earned brackets at the meeting. Trainer Tony Stevens will hold a strong hand in this race having entered Beta Ray and Jolly Dolly both belonging to Howard Rouse of Lexington. Slated to face that strong entry are Arthur Charles, Pvt. Sam, Dotty Redbird, Our Only One, Queens Hope, Gilded King, Clever Defense, and Baileys Pride. Beta Raj ran a strong third to Gambetta in the Susan Stakes here on Saturday, being defeated by four and one-half lengths. In that race, Beta Ray broke the best and then dropped off the pace while on the outside of the pack. On the turns, Bowcut found more favorable racing room and moving into the stretch was along the rail where she finished strongly. It is no disgrace to lose to Gambetta who is regarded as one of the top flight two-year-old fillies in the Middle West and has already won two stakes this year. Scored in Racing Bow Beta Ray won here in her racing debut when on June 4 she reached the wire a half length in front of Filly O Mine. JockeyBowcut reported after the race that she raced rather greenly, something that she has overcome nicely in her last two local appearances. Jolly Dolly was a bit more impressive in her maiden-breaking effort when on the second day of the meeting she gained the lead at the, start and drew clear to win by 12 open lengths. Willow Broom chased her over the line. Of the two fillies, however, both Stevens and Bowcut prefer Beta Ray. Arthur Charles has been rested for two weeks since the Sun Again gelding broke his maiden. The Brookridge colorbearer after breaking second gained the lead soon thereafter and drew clear to win by four over Maxs Reward. His time was 1:04 for the five furlong panels over a muddy strip. Mrs. L. L. Voight Jr.s Our Only One, a good looking daughter of Air Hero, finished far back in the Susan, but in her debut over the track, looked exceedingly good when she bested Lynn Ridge by four and a half lengths at five furlongs. Her time was 1:00% and she won rather: easily. Dotty Redbird turned in a strong effort on June 18 when the Papa Redbird filly bested Run Dell by three lengths. Pvt. Sam is also a winner over this "strip. Baileys Pride turned in a poor effort in her lone try here, but is expected to turn in a much better race on Thursday. She looked good this spring while racing in Kentucky. The. Chillicothe is named in honor of the Ohio city that the great mare Imp was foaled. The ThistleDown Jockey Club honors Imp by naming a stake for her which will be run on Saturday.
