Find Works Nicely For Brooklyn Cap Vanderbilt Star Breezes Mile In l:453/5; High Gun, Cold Command Also Prep Cleverly By J. SWEENEY GRANT iStaff Correspondent •AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 23.— Sloppy racing strips and inclement weather failed to hamper the training routines of several of the more formidable thoroughbreds prepping for the various stake events to be decided during the remainder of the Aqueduct meeting. Heavy early morning rains had a decided effect on the Metropolitan racing surfaces, but work tabs nevertheless showed an abundance of stake candidates undaunted by the circumstances. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Find, winner of the Queens County Handicap in his last | start, took to the Belmont training track and breezed a mile in 1:45% while under steadying restraint. Find is expected to appear next in the 0,000 added Brooklyn Handicap, won last year by Greentree Stables Tom Fool. -Joe W. Browns Matagorda, another eligible for the third jewel in the Triple Crown of the handicap division, stepped a slow six furlongs over the Aqueduct strip in 1:19. Continues Good Trials for Dwyer High Gun, winner of the Belmont and Peter Pan on successive week ends, continued to prep cleverly for his start in the Dwyer. The King Ranch colt was called upon for a half-mile jaunt, which he completed in :5lYs, handily. John S. Phipps Level Lea, who appears about ready to return to actual competition, traversed a similar distance in :51 flat. Level Lea, winner of the Edgemere Handicap last year, has been named for the Carter and Brooklyn. C. V. Whitneys Cold Command, who will attempt to add this years Edgemere to his list of victories, skipped six furlongs over the Belmont training track in 1:16%. Eligibles for the Carter, who were seen in action during the early morning hours, included Vanderbilts First Glance and J. J. Amiels Mr. Turf. The former was timed a half-mile over the training s,trip in :48%. Mr. Turf worked over the main track and stepped three furlongs in :37 flat. On Your Own, only filly yet to best Eve- Out, breezed a half-mile in :52 in reparation for a contemplated start in the istaf f Handicap to be decided here Mon-[ay. The King Ranch miss upset calcula-ions earlier in the meeting when she outlined Mrs. George D. Wideners champion illy in the Gazelle. Iting Though not named for the Distaff, Eve-ling Out toured six furlongs over the main rack in 1:08, breezing. The Shawmut Stables Gainsboro Girl, one of the fore-nost contenders for the Distaff, sped five-ighths of a mile in 1:02%. Her trial was [ne of the better ones on the tab.
