Cassidy Tenders Resignation As Del Mar Presiding Steward HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 23. — Wendell P. Cassidy yesterday resigned as presiding steward of the 1954 Del Mar meeting to give the new officers of Del Mar "the opportunity to make their own decisions with regard to racing officials without being influenced by previous commitments." j Cassidys letter follows: "Mr. Cliye Becker, general manager Del Mar Turf Club, "Del Mar, Calif. "Dear Clive: "As you will recall, some time ago you appointed me presiding steward for the 1954 Del Mar racing meeting. This appointment was later given the official approval of the California Racing Board. "Since I accepted this position, which I have filled for the past two years, there have been changes in the Del Mar Turf Club board of directors and a new managing director has been appointed. "I sincerely believe that these new officers of Del Mar should be given the opportunity to make their own decisions with regard to racing officials without being influenced by previous commitments, and I therefore consider it proper for me to submit my resignation at this time.
