Crafty Sleuth Turns In His Third Tally of Year Passes River Downs Finish Line With Head Margin Over Afta-Dan RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 23. — Shadowens and Bolsers Crafty Sleuth, a sophomore son of Vincentive — Qhar-mante, turned in the third victory of the year here this afternoon over a track which was classed as good but which had several slow spots in it. Capably handled by the veteran jockey, Louis Rivera, Crafty Sleuths time for the six furlongs* was 1:13 flat and as the second choice in the betting an .40 mutuel was posted. The weather here this afternoon has been ideal and River Downs of Ohio played host to upward of 6,000 fans. Throughout the nine-race program an enthusiastic group cheered the winners and while the sun was extremely hot there was a frequent cooling breeze. . Froome Barbours -Anneke Jans and jockey R. Cassidy turned on the pressure in the stretch run of the opener to reach the wire a length and one-quarter in front of S. D. Guy and R. Ferraras Time Worker which had the saddle services of jockey G, Silva. The latter rider came back in the second race to score while astride H. Kamals Party List. While taking that Parasang filly out of the maiden ranks, the winner also completed a 69.80 Daily Double. B. J. Steele, starter at Gulfstream Park and Detroit, visited this course this afternoon. Mrs. Steele accompanied the veteran racing official and they plan to stay over for a day or so of the sport at this popular plant.
