Brighter Days May Duel Handicap Stars at Fairs PLEASONTON, Calif., June 23.— Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Copenhavers Brighter Days, top development of the county fair circuit last summer, will be back for another whirl on the "leaky roof" merry-go-round this season. The 3-year-old son of Trailer is now stabled at Alameda County Fairgrounds awaiting the inaugural day here Monday. Winner of his first start at Vallejo in 1953, Brighter Days went on to annex four more races at the fairs with his most important triumph coming in the ,000 Presidents Stake at the California State Fair, Sacramento. He then invaded the "big apple," running his string to seven straight by winning two starts at Golden Gate Fields. His first defeat came in the Richmond Stakes at Albany, in which he finished third but he did manage to head a little gray horse named Determine. In his 2-year-old season he started 13 times. He won seven races, was second twice and third twice with 6,000 earnings for the year. The handsome chestnut has added ,400 to that amount this year.
