Holly Mims Faces Dykes In Ten Rounder Tonight Washington Scrapper Gunning For Tl Straight in Video Bout By JACK CUDDY United Press Spoits Writer WASHINGTON, D. C, June 29. Holly Mims, aggressive Washington middleweight, will try to extend his 10-victory streak when he takes on veteran Bobby Dykes in a 10-round nationally-televised bout at Uline Arena Wednesday night. Dykes, the six foot one and one-half inch beanpole from San Antonio Texas, will have a wealth of height and experience over the five-foot-six Mims. But Mims has fought and beaten tall, rangy boys before and is riding the crest of a winning streak he hopes will take him all the way up to a title bout with middleweight champion Bobo Olson. There is nothing sepctacular about Mims, who has recorded only seven knockouts in his 49 fights. But he is a persistent workman who gets inside and wears down his opponents with hard, short punches. Dykes, on the other hand, has a record of 47 knockouts in his 112 professional fights. He is smart, fast and orthodox and is considered an off-balance hitter who can land telling punches when least expected, Dykes has compiled a record of 94 wins, 13 defeats and five draws since he started fighting professionally as a welterweight in 1946. Mims, working on a string of 10 straight victories since November, 1952, has won 34, lost 11 and fought four draws. Three of his last 10 wins have been by knockouts. Among his recent victories are Willie Troy, Lester Felton, Jesse Turner, George Johnson and Moses Ward. Dkyes lost by a knockout earlier this year to Ralph "Tiger" Jones but then proceeded to whip Joe Giambra, Johnny Lombardo, Joe Rindone and Walter Cartier. Billy Edwards, who trains Mims, has served notice on the fight world that "ifj Mims gets past Dykes, and I think he will, it will show that Mims is ready for Olson." J j ! j
