Correlation Is Possible Starter in Westerner Colt to Work Today at Hollywood; Will Definitely Seek Gold Cup HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 29. Correlation is a possible starter in the Westerner, to be run Saturday, and a definite starter in the Gold Cup, July 17, owner Bob Lytle so stated here this morning. The son of Free America, who ii. recent months won two 00,000 races during his invasion of the East, worked a sensational mile in 1:38 here last Saturday between races. However, the colts handlers are not certain that he is fit and ready for a top performance, and his status as regards starting in the 0,000 Westerner against Determine on Saturday has been in doubt ever since his arrival 10-days ago. Lytle was interviewed early this morning. "Our plans for Correlation now call for him to work a mile and an eighth Wednesday morning," Lytle s .id. "We want to race him soon, but we dont want to run him until we feel that he is physically back in top shape and ready for an effort worthy of his true ability. "Since we went East a few months ago he has campaigned in five different states and raced about 10 or 11 miles in the toughest of competition. We hope to get him back in the condition he was in when he won the Wood Memorial, which was his best race in the East. "We may not be able to make a decision as to whether or not he will run in the Westerner Saturday until entry time Friday or possibly even until scratch time Saturday. We may find it necessary to train him an additional two weeks to get him back in prime condition. "He will definitely start in the Hollywood Cup July 17. As to the Westerner, his status as a starter will have to remain doubtful until after Wednesdays workout and until we see how fit he is as race time nears."
