. . Timely Tip Back In Action Today Arkansas Derby Winner Meets Wolf Gal, Amawalk, Mr. Jett at ThistleDown THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 29. The most attractive week day program of the meeting has-been arranged for Wednesday here at ThistleDown. The featured seventh race, the Find Purse at six furlongs, will witness the return to action of Dr. A. L. Birchs stakes winning colt, Timely Tip, who is one of the leading nominees for the Ohio Derby to be run here on July 10. The race has been named for last years Ohio Derby winner. Slated to face Timely Tip are Char-Mar Farms Susans Sir, M. R. "Buddy" Hamars Wolf Gal, Anthony Graffagninis Second Request, Herbert E. Simpsons Burnt Child, Mrs. L. L. Voight, Jr.s Solar System, Wil-mer C. Ensors Amawalk, Samuel C. Dykes Mr. Jett and the Thorncliff Farms Lorilia. Timely Tip will be remembered for his game effort in this years Kentucky Derby when the entire son of The Doge was very much in the running until the final quarter of a mile. His most important tally of the year was chalked up at Oaklawn Park In March when he won the Arkansas Derby running against some, of the best of his generation in action at that time. Shipped to Keeneland After his score in the Arkansas Derby the colt was shipped to Keeneland where he turned in several very good races. Probably his best Kentucky race of the spring was on April 16 when over a sloppy track he reached the wire a nose in front of the highly regarded Admiral Porter with Rebel Stables Super Devil, a recent winner of a Lincoln Fields feature, another length and a half back at the end of the seven furlongs. Last season while running here in Ohio and Detroit, Timely Tip was regarded as the best two-year-old colt in many seasons to show his wares in the Cleveland area. Among his many victories was a score in Randall Parks Youthful Stakes at six furlongs. Under the conditions of the Find Purse Timely Tip will pick up the top weight of 119 pounds which will include the tracks leading rider Paul A. Ward. Wolf Gal will be seeking her second straight tally over the local strip, having scored impressively in last Saturdays Imp Handicap at six furlongs. In that race she gained the lead just inside the furlong marker and then drew clear to win by a length and a half with Best Air gaining the place award. That race was worth ,313 to her Cleveland owner. Last year at Hialeah Park she won several stake races. The Samurai filly will once again be ridden by Donal Bowcut. Amawalk was disqualified after winning his last race and placed third for drifting in badly in the final sixteenth of a mile. The colt who was bred by Dr. Ensor has compiled a good record thus far at this meeting and if anything is to beat either Wolf Gal or Timely Tip it would appear as though Amawalks chances are the best.
