Ashley T. Cole to Be HBPAs Guest of Honor Testimonial to N.Y. Commission Chairman at Waldorf on Sept. 9 NEW YORK, N. Y., June 29. Ashley Trimble Cole, chairman of the New York State Racing Commission and past president of the National Association of State Racing Commissioners, will be the guest of honor at a dinner to be given by the New York division of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association in the main ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria on September 9. Announcement of the selection of Cole as guest of honor was made by Sol Rutchick, president of the New York division of the HBPA. Rutchick is chairman of the dinner committee with Miss Mildred Saunders, secretary-treasurer, in charge of dinner arrangements. Honorary members of the dinner committee are George D. Widener, F. Skiddy von Stade, John A. Morris, Cyrus S. Jullien, Alfred G. Vanderbilt, J. Samuel Perlman, Marshall Cassidy, Francis Dunne. Cole has been a member of the New York State Racing Commission since 1942. This year he was appointed by Gov. Dewey for an additional six-year term. He was president of the National Association of State Racing Commissioners in 1948. Born in New York City on July 11, 1876, Cole graduated from Columbia University in 1897 and received his LL. B. from the New York Law School in 1899. He has served with distinction on the New York State Racing Commission of which he has been chairman since 1945. He has been one of tho leaders in the fight against discriminatory legislation against thoroughbred racing.
