Crowd of 3,500 Turns Out For Connaught Night Cord CONNAUGHT PARK, Aylmer, Quebec, June 29. Ottawa followers of thoroughbred racing had their first glimpse of action under the arcs here last evening when a gathering of about 3,500, many from points in New York, state and from the Montreal area, filled the compact enclosure of Con-naught Park. The seven races were conducted in orderly fashion and without a hitch, the last race going postward shortly after 11 pan. EDT. The half mile strip, which is "very well lighted, appeared to be much safer than many had anticipated, and the red light clubhouse turn, was traversed nicely by the runners, who were.eight strong in most of the contests. Riders who had previously ridden under the lights at Scarborough Downs, and other ovals pronounced it as well, if not better, lighted than most of those other tracks, the only flaw was the dimness appearing around the starting gate, which obstructed the view somewhat until the horses had actually run down closer to the stands. However, this will be remedied immediately with additional lights and spectators will then have a clear picture of tiie track from all angles.
