High Gun Works One Mile Before Public for Dwyer Belmont Stakes Winner Timed in 1 :39Vand; Diving Board Preps AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y.. June 29. King Ranchs High Gun and High Button, both candidates for the Dwyer this week end, appeared on the track accompanied by a lead pony after todays first race, jogged past the stands and were dismounted at the paddock gap. After being led to the paddock, they were brought out again after the second race and broke off in front of the stands with High Button some five lengths in the van. High Button, never got to running, however, and High Gun caught and passed him before they reached the backstretch, then went on to step a handy mile in 1:39. The son of Heliopolis eased up another furlong in 1:54. High Button contributed nothing to the trial and eased up after a half in :52. High Guns fractions by furlongs were :12, :24, :36, ,48, 1:13, 1:26. It will be noted that the Belmont Stakes winner got the final quarter in :25 over the dead track and stepped the final furlong in : 12 under mild urging. This was almost a second faster than the previous furlong. The colt had no trouble negotiating the sharp turns, "staying close to the rail all the way. High Gun will have to carry topweight of .126 pounds in the Dwyer, conceding 12 pounds to most of his rivals. It doesnt appear too difficult a task in hiand present form. Alfred G. Vanderbilts First Glance and "Social Outcast, and Jack Amiels Mr. Turf were given preps on the main track at Belmont Park this morning for their engagements in next Mondays 0,000 Carter Handicap at seven rurlongs. Mr. Turf, who is a vastly improved sprinter this year and gets in the Carter with 118 pounds, was most impressive, stepping six furlongs in 1:13 while being eased a bit in the final furlong. His fractions were : 22, : 34 s 47 :59. Social Outcast and First Glance, who both come from winning races, worked together from the gate and the first-named appeared a bit better than his older stable-mate. Social Outcast was clocked in 1:12 over the fast track, while First Glance was timed two-fifths slower. The three -year-old Hail Fellow broke from the gate with Social Outcast and First Glance, but only went five furlongs, which were timed in 1:00. Greentree Stables Diving Board, who is eligible to Saturdays Dwyer Stakes and might replace his stablemate, Palm Tree, in that mile and a quarter, went three-quarters in 1:13 this morning without being fully extended in his handy move. Palm Tree showed a distaste for the sharp Aqueduct turns yesterday that caused him to be disqualified after winning a mile and a sixteenth prep for the 0,000 Dwyer Diving Board is a handier type.
