Workers on Seven-Day I Week at Cahokia Downs Parking Space Increased so as To Accommodate 9XK Cars EAST ST. LOUIS, 111., June 29. With workmen pushing ahead rapidly under a seven-day work week schedule, completion of ultra-modern, spacious and attractive Cahokia Downs, which will open July 27 for 10 days of racing, now is just days away. Except for the clubhouse, all steel for which now is in place, some interior work in the grandstand; the grading and surfacing of an 80 per cent increase in the parking area and finishing touches to the tracks expansive lighting and totalisator systems, construction of the ,000,000 plant has "been completed. A parking area adequate for 5,000 cars was completed some weeks ago, but it was. decided to increase these facilities to accommodate an additional 4,000 units, and this expansion is well advanced. Satisfied that construction is progressing at the swiftest possible pace, officials of this Illinois-owned plant now are concentrating on a drive to bring to southern Illinois the best thoroughbreds to perform in the greater St. Louis area in many years. Representatives of Cahokia Downs are contacting owners whose horses currently are racing in northern Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and at eastern points and this drive prom-, ises to produce ample material to provide racing" in keeping with the elegance of this newest of American race courses. Horsemen interested in racing their horses at Cahokia Downs should make application for stalls at the earliest possible time. When applying for accommodations horsemen should include the names of their horses and post their requests or applications to Cahokia Downs, Broadview Hotel, East St. Louis, 111. The tracks barns, racing strip, tack rooms, grooms quarters and track restaurant all were completed some weeks ago and scores of thoroughbreds have been training on the course the past 30 days. Cahokia Downs will diversify its daily presentations to include special events all of primary interest to lovers of the norse. There will be 70 days of racing and net proceeds from 10 of them the first four and last six will be turned over to various charities.
