Trim Destiny, Black Gallant Make Up Formidable Pair in Soo Purse White Entry Likely Choice; 4 VanBerg Coupling of Endon, VantageetShotin Plymouth By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 9. — Tho Soo Purse at six furlongs for three-year-olds and the Plymouth High "12" Purse at a like distance for three-year-olds and older will share the spotlight on a well-balanced program here Friday. Six top-filght, second-year racers, representing five interests, are scheduled to clash in the Soo while the Plymouth lured an overnight field of 10 quick performers, from eight of the top stables campaigning here. . G. R. Whites homebred pair, Trim Destiny and Black Gallant, make up a favored entry for the Soo Pui-se, spotted fifth on the card. Trim Destiny, a quick son of Destino and Trimlike, winner of the 1955 Arkansas Derby, is slated to make his Motor City debut. Trim Destiny also was a sharp factor during the initial seven-eighths of the Derby. He raced prominently until nearing the stretch, then faded after engaging Swaps for that part of the "big race." Although he was beaten off, his display of early foot was such that he will find the shorter distance of the Soo advantageous. Black Gallant looked good at Oaklawn Park early in March when he was a sharp second to Emil Denemarks Hutcheson in the Oklahoma Purse. Cecil Locklear, who conditions the White thoroughbreds, hadnt named riders for his charges at a late hour today. While the White entry looms danger-ous, Max Zipkins Gay Warbler, J. H. Ho-mans homebred Jeffrey J. S., Mrs. Norman H. Hernandez Our Hines and the C. and P. Farms Deedee O., have shown enough, to merit consideration. Our Hines, a bay son of Sir Damion and Pass Thirty, by Eight Thirty, won in his last Kentucky engagement, downing a better-than-average field of three-year-olds. Jockey Larney Hansman will be astride Jeffrey J. S. in the Soo; little Johnny Sellers, one of the best apprentice prospects to appear in Detroit in several seasons, is engaged for Gay Warbler, and apprentice John Tracey rides Deedee O. Lois Cook, leading reinsman at the current meeting, will have the mount on Our Hines, assuring the New Orleans-owned colt good handling. The Plymouth High "12" Purse undoubtedly will develop into one of the best sprint events of the present meeting. Marion H. VanBerg, Nebraska horseman perennially high in the owner-trainer standings, will send out an entry in the dash, the former stake winners Endon and Vantage, also the speedy Barre Granite-sired stallion Set Shot, third in an overnight race here June 2. Jockey Cook is to handle Set Shot or Endon, while Sellers will be at the reins on Vantage. Trainer George White will saddle Edward J. Grosfields .Little Colonel and Mrs. Whites hard-hitting mare, Nocallula, for their Plymouth High "12" engagements. Apprentice Joe Gregory will be up on Little- Colonel and, Bobby Roberts rides Nocallula, who is favorably weighted at 105 pounds. Others expected to start in the co-feature are Paul L. Hallums Roll Bama, who turned in a commendable effort in a recent local start; Tamarack Stables Reb-Misha, W. W. Walters Bea Marony and the Bee Tee Stables Equimore. Kencal Stud Farms World Series, a four-year-old colt, the get of Shut Out and Sleigh Bells, by Challedon, also will be under silks in the sprint, marking his first appearance on a Michigan track.
