Hialeah Building Vast Grandstand Workpn Project Under Way; Provides 50 Per Cent More Space With 4,500 New Seats HIALEAH, Fla., June 9. — Adding to its facilities for its meeting next winter, Hialeah Park, which boasts a virtually new clubhouse, is now in the process of rebuilding its grandstand. Work on the project is now well under way. Construction of the grandstand is going on under the direction of Gene Mori, who purchased control of Hialeah last summer. Mori is following the same patternt for the grandstand as was used for the clubhouse when it was built two years ago, incorporating its features in the new structure. Excavations have been completed and the flooring and walling already poured for the basement. Structural steel is scheduled to start arriving July 1, with erection to be under way by July 15. - An increase of 50 per cent will be provided in the grandstand capacity, with 4,500 seats and 145,000 square feet of space included in the new construction. Like the clubhouse, the addition will be a three-level building, done in French chateau style, with emphasis on smooth traffic flow. The structure will be 312 feet in length toward the head of the stretch and will extend 32 feet more to the rear than the present grandstand. Its over-all width will be 182 feet and it will match up with the clubhouse on the paddock side. Sky Terrace Overlooks Paddock and Track The glassed-in "sky terrace" on the top level, behind the last row of seats, will overlook both paddock and track, with 12,000 square feet of space and generous mutuel facilities, serving both the new building and the upper seating of the old part of the grandstand; lunch and drinks win oe avauaoie in tne sKy terrace; Many features of Hialeahs new clubhouse will be adopted for the grandstand addition. The decorations and finishing will be the same. The roof will be slate covered. Toilets and lounges will be the same quality. Seats will betne comfortable, oversized, clear-under-foot type. There will be a grand staircase. In the grandstand addition, however, it will be located in the middle and connect all three levels. There will be a paddock balcony off the mezzanine. All levels will be weather protected: Lower level mutuels will be in two sections, with a 57-foot passageway between the sections. Bank-type windows will be used in the new part- of the grandstand. The new restaurant will be on the lower level along the paddock side, 190 feet by 35. There will be generous concession facilities throughout the grandstand addition. The main entrance, enlarged to 80 feet, will be reached by walks throughout and around a new paddock. The main entrance will lead to the escalators with service to all levels. Overhanging the entrance will be three balconies, one for each "level", 60 feet by 10. A 60-foot exit passageway is located at the north end of the building.
