Btookrneade Stable Realizes $/ 9,900 For 22 Horses at Belmont Park Sale Country Club Tops Vendue at* 6,200; Nine Yearlings in Dispersal Bring 1,500 BELMONT PARK, Elmont. L. I., N. Y.. June 9. — Twenty-two thoroughbreds, the property of the Brookmeade Stable of Mrs. Dodge Sloane. passed under the gavel of auctioneer George Swinebroad at a dispersal sale held Wednesday evening in the clubhouse parking area of Belmont Park. The group brought a total of 0,900 for an average of ,632. The nine yearlings included in the vendue reaped 1,500 for a ,389 average. Humphrey Finney, president of the Fasig-Tipton Comuany. expressed complete satisfaction with the sale, which was briskly carried out due to unseasonably inclement weather. The top price of the vendue was the 6,200 the J. H. and N. M. Monaghan Farms Co. of Derby. Colo., paid to attain the five - year - old Country Club. The gelded son of Piping Rock — Flota, by Jack High accounted for his last two starts at Garden State. It was unusual, however, that he attracted a sum of ,200 in excess of the claiming price for which he was entered in his previous engagement. The .second high of the sale was the ,500 bid by Albert J. Mesler of Brooklyn to obtain the three-year-old gelding Power. The Mesler acquisition is the progeny of Cosmic Bomb — Pomayya and thus a half brother to the good performer Devilkin. The Meadowhill Stable went to ,000 to acquire the two-year-old filly Released, a handsome daughter of Grand Admiral and Set Free. A brown colt, the son of By Jimminy and Dutch Cut. topped the yearlings sold. The striking youngster was acquired by Arthur White of Middleburg. Va., for ,000. An estimated 250 persons were in attendance for the Brookmeade sale, the second of three to be conducted by the Fasig-Tipton Company. Mrs. Sloane provided many gallons of boullion and coffee for the patrons of her vendue and also had a couple of trunks of coolers blankets brought over from her barns to provide protection for the ladies against the chill night air. The mistress of Brookmeade declared after the sale that she wanted to hold similar night sales in future years and told the Fasig-Tipton Companys president Humphrey Finney she would like to have this agreement in writing.
