ALFORD saved ground while being rated, disposed of PLENARY entering the stretch and withstood the long drive of HOPLITE. The latter, unhurried early, circled the field to engage the leader with a bold bid entering the stretch, then was not good enough. PLENARY set the pace under rating and faltered through the final quarter. MIDIAN weakened. EASTERN GLOW was outrun. TOPSIDE appeared unable to handle«the going.
