Card Fifteen Handicaps For Louisville Meeting. Range in Value From ,000 to ,000; Cup at Latter Figure LOJJISVIJJE, Ky., June 21.— Racing secretary Charles F. Henry has billed 15 handicap events for the forthcoming meeting of the Louisville Racing Association at the old Kentucky State Fairgrounds, June 26 through July 27. These handicaps, which vary in distance from five furlongs to two and one-sixteenth miles, carry~a total of 9,000 in value. The list is topped by the second running of the Louisville Cup, which has a purse of ,000. Twelve of the handicaps, all of which are scheduled on five Saturdays of the meeting with the exception of Independence Day July 4 and opening day, are at ,500 and two of them are worth ,000. The Louisville Cup, which had its inaugural running in 1956, is the handicap in which, Henry and Gen. J. Fred Miles, president of the Louisville Racing Asocia-tion, have hopes of developing into a race of consequence. It was won by Mrs. Mildred Brandts Imurguy last year, and the horse went on to become a real competitor in handicaps at tracks in Florida and Ohio. Last fall he won a race at Churchill Downs. Imurguy will not be back at the Old Kentucky State Fairgrounds this year, so the field for the second running of the Louisville Cup could be wide open as it develops. The cup, a six and one-half furlongs event, will be run on the closing day of the meeting. All of the handicaps carry names of Kentucky flavor, some of which are for the songs made famous by Stephen Foster. The complete list of handicaps follows: JUNE 26 — Suwannee River Handicap, ,000, three-year-olds and upward, five furlongs; Stephen Foster Handicap, ,500, Continued an Page Forty-Three Card Fifteen Handicaps For Louisville Meeting Range in -Value From ,000 to ,000; Cup at Latter Figure Continued from Page Ten three-year-olds and upward, six and one-half furlongs.
