DARK THEATRE trailed for a short distance in the first quarter and failed to loom as a contender until the stretch was reached, then came very fast on the outside to take command an eighth out and win in handy fashion. ROVING CAESAR made a strong move nearing the -stretch turn to catch RETRACT after being straightened out in the stretch but was unable to resist the winner. FLAMING BLUE dropped back nearing the stretch turn, then came again. BOBTAG was never a threat although finishing steadily. RETRACT tired badly in the last furlong. COOL CUSTOMER, always within striking distance, moved strongly next to the rail after entering the stretch and, finding a fairly wide opening, came through to take command and best FANCY SOUVENIR. The latter forged to the front on the stretch turn but lost some ground in the run home. SALMATIVE was outrun to the stretch, then moved strongly and was pressing at the end. LITTLE RAVEN had the most early speed but weakened and just lasted to hold WISE EDDIE to a dead-heat for fourth place. WISE EDDIE was going strongly at the end. LEJO was close enough early but tired. PORT CALL went Id the front soon after the start and was never in danger of losing the leadership and pulling away when ready, was in hand all through the last sixteenth. JOHNS HOUR was always within striking distance and was much the best of the rest. FARMERS JOY made a bobble on an early hurdle but was quickly righted and went fairly well thereafter.
