Illinois House Sends Homebred Bill to Senate Also Approves Measure Giving Racing Board Additional Power SPRINGFIELD, 111., June 21.— The .Illinois House Thursday night passed the Illinois thoroughbred bill which will provide rich purses for Illinois-breds and also gave approval to its companion bill which would give additional power to the Dlinois Racing Board. The vote on the homebred measure was 115 to 21, while the second bill, which revises in detail the authority of the Illinois Racing Board, passed 129 to 3. Both bills now go to the Senate. A similar bill had been introduced in the Senate but was stricken from that bodys calendar by Majority Leader Arthur Bidwill when he was unable .to get agreement on amendments to it. The Illinois homebred bill calls for the running of ninth or extra races with part of the pari-mutuel receipts therefrom going to the thoroughbred fund from which purses would be available for homebred races. The fund, expected to be 50,000 for the first year of operation, would be used to provide a maximum of four races at each meeting exclusively for two-year-olds, bred and foaled in Illinois, foaled in Illinois, or horses from elsewhere owned by Illinois residents. Provisions in the companion measure give specific authority to the Illinois Racing Board to permit the holder of a racing license to hold a race meeting "at any other race track within an area of 100 miles in event of flood, disaster, national emergency, or in the public interest." Rep. Peter C. Granata R-Chicago , chairman of the House committee on license and miscellany, is chief sponsor of the two bills which have the backing of Gov. William G. Strattons administration.
