I* Myrtlewood Myrtlewdod to to Engage Engage Eight; Eight; i I Manteau Manteau , Seeks Seeks . — — Ohio Ohio Derby Derby Tops Dozen Named For 0,260 Race Regard Shan Pac Strongest Threat to Haggin Homebred in ThistleDown Headliner Ey PAT CAUDILL THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 21.— With the 48-hour rule being observed here in drawing the field for Saturdays 6,000 added Ohio Derby, post positions were assigned the 12 three-year-olds passing the entry box yesterday and checking with racing secretary P. G. Farrell this morning revealed no scratches to the present. Indications are the perfect weather prevailing here for the majority of the meeting will continue through tomorrow and the oval is expected to be at its best. With such prospects in sight it is very likely the field will remain at the even dozen mark and in such a case the winner will net 8,980 with the gross value of the event being 0,260. Decided at the distance of one mile and one-half in its early runnings, the Derby has been-decided at one mile and one-eighth since its revival in 1924. Church Rides Favorite Louis Lee Haggin H.s Manteau, a handsome son of the Triple Crown winner Citation, carries top weight of 120 pounds, with jockey Kenneth Church journeying here to handle him. It is very likely off his brilliant campaign at the Balmoral meeting at Washington Park when he won three straight events, including the Domino Stakes, he will receive most support from the wagering fans. His last outing saw Continued on Page Nineteen Manteau, Eleven Others In 0,260 Ohio Derby Shan Pac Strongest Threat to Haggm Colt in ThistleDown Race Continued from Page One him unplaced when favored ih the 0,000 added Chicagoan, won by Better Bee. Looming the strongest threat to Manteau-are T, Alie Grissoms Shan Pac, to be ridden by J. R. Adams and also a starter in the Chicagoan when backed to second choice. This son of Shannon II. has the distinction of being the only entrant in the feature classic who started in the Kentucky Derby, though badly beaten off in that affair. Expected to retain much backing from the local fans is W. J. Sprow Jr.s Cardinal Sin, impressive winner of last Saturdays Derby Trial here. The three-yeal-old son of Papa Redbiro! earned his second purse of the year in winning last weeks mile test. His previous victory this year was in an allowance event, at Keeneland. Mrs. C. B. Fischbach who makes her home in nearby Akron, will be represented ■by her Federal Judge, winner of the Merchandise Mart Purse, an allowance event, last Saturday, the closing day of the Balmoral meeting. Vernon D. Feins Some Classic, shipped here from Chicago, will be seeking his third victory of the year, having won at the Balmoral meeting. His campaign at the Washington Park course saw him finish second to Shan Pac in the Duplicator Purse. The balance of the field includes J. L. Here Come Joe has won two events here, with Ten Oclock and Jet Comet each having accounted for one. Here Come Joe was sent three-eighths of a mile this morning in a slow breeze, stepping the distance in :37, while Ten Oclock worked a half mile in :50. Other morning trials saw Big Steve go three-eighths in :36% and Tender Morsel a half mile in :51%. The nine-race program will get under way at the usual starting time of 2:15 p.m. and some excellent supporting events have been carded.
