I., N. Y., June 21. — A field of 12 three-year-old fillies, the largest since 1951, has been named to dispute Saturdays 41st running of the classic Coaching Club American Oaks at a mile and three furlongs. Claiborne Farms Bayou, who will be trying to duplicate the triumph of her sister, Levee, in last years CCA Oaks, will be~in quest of her fifth straight triumph tomorrow and will probably be an odds-on choice. If all 12 go postward in this richest edition of what is becoming known as "the fillys Belmont Stakes" it will have a gross value og 1,650. and a gross prize to the winner of 0,650, of which 0 is the nominating fee and 00 the fee to start. „ Eddie Arcara will ride Bayou, a handsome daughter of Hill Prince — Bourtai, by Stimulus, who won two overnight events, the Acorn Stakes and the Delaware Oaks, in her last four starts. Moody Jolleys charge has finished all of her recent races strongly and the performance of Levee last year suggests that the long journey should have no terrors for her, at least so far as pedigree is concerned. She has amassed some 0,200 thus far, being no worse than fourth in 20 of her 21 starts. Seven Stakes Winners in Field There are six stakes winners among Bayous 11 rivals, all of whom meet her on even terms at 121 pounds. Hal Price Head-leys Pillow Talk, winner of the Black Eyed Susan at Pimlico, stopped badly in the Acorn Stakes, but was less than a length behind Bayou at the finish of the Delaware Oaks. She was tiring badly, howeVer. Logan Batcheller will ride. Cain Hoy Stables Jota Jota won the Ashland Stakes at Keeneland, John S. Kroeses Marullah won last years Sorority Stakes, Reginal N. Websters Prophets Bell won the 1956 Rosedale, Mrs. Edna Veenemans Woodlawn won the Pollyanna last summer, while C. V. Whitneys Magic Forest picked up 3,550 when given last years Gardenia Stakes on the disqualification of Romanita. Incidentally, Mrs. Edna Veenemans Woodlawn flew in from Chicago for tomorrows Oaks after finishing second to Romanita in the Cleopatra, third in the Black Eyed Susan and fourth in the Kentucky Oaks; She will.be ridden by Bobby Ussery. A non-stakes winner could prove to be Bayous chief rival tomorrow. This is King Ranchs Here and There, a fast-finishing third in the Acorn Stakes, who will be ridden by Ted Atkinson. Though unable to win this year, the daughter of Middle-ground from Scattered, who ?on the 1943 CCA Oaks for King Ranch, has given strong indications of being suited by tomorrows grueling route. The CCA Oaks field is completed by Fox-catcher Farms Gold Finery, Joseph M. Roeblings Neshanic, C. T. Chenerys Willamette and -Mrs. Laudy Lawrences Jolie Deja, which translates literally as "Pretty Already." t Gold Finery finished seventh in the Delaware Oaks after a bit of early speed. Willamette finished a stubborn neck behind Jota Jota at a mile and a furlong here on June 11, with Neshanic a fairly close fifth after trailing to the stretch. Jolie Deja moved from 17th and last place to ninth in the last half of the Acorn Stakes. Several of these fillies blew out on the main track here this morning with Woodlawn showing the most speed when she went three panels in :35%. Magic Forest went three furlongs in :37%, while Jolie Deja was clocked in :38%. Willamette went a handy half in :48, while Jota Jota was timed in :48%. His Cherokee Rtose won the 1954 renewal, while Jota Jota will be trying to give him a second leg on the cup tomorrow. Starting up the Widener course, the large fjeld of fillies will make a complete turn of the many racing surfaces at Belmont before finishing in front of the stands as the 11-furlong course leads them on the chute for a short way, then bearing right across the training track, joining the main course in the mile and one-eighth chute for an 11-furlong run with but one turn. The Coaching Club, sponsor of the stakes itself, will be out in full force, headed by president Robert Strawbridge Jr. The group, which once required all members to qualify lor admission by being able to handle a coach and four, has their annual luncheon the day of the race and is the donator of the Coaching Club cup.
