MURPHY ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 21. — An eight-horse field, headed by Mrs. Gene Markeys Calumet Farms handicap star, Fabius, and Rothmore Farms Munchausen, was named for Saturdays 17th running of the 1,775 Myrtle-wood Handicap here. Fabius, winner of last years Preakness, will carry top weight of 126 pounds Saturday in quest of his first Arlington victory since winning his racing bow here in June of 1955. Munchausen, who set a track record for five and one-half furlongs opening day, gets in the six furlong sprint with 118 pounds. Impressed in Opening-Day Effort E. Gay Drakes fleet Dogoon, who failed as the heavy choice in Mondays dash behind Munchausen, will tote second high impost of 119 pounds. Others in the field are Hasty House Farms Sea O Erin, Colin MacLeod Jr.s Besomer, J. R. Johnston and Blossom Stables Good Gesture, Spring Hill Farms I Appeal and Valley View Farms Warbler; If all eight start, the gross value will be 1,775 and the winner will net 2,600. It was his second straight win this year and his first try over the Arlington strip since winning the 1954 edition of the Primer as a two-year-old*. An ace sprinter, Munchausen figures to be among the front-runners Saturday as he tries for his second 1957 stakes triumph — he won the Louisville Handicap early this spring. Dogoon disappointed here on opening day, finishing fifth after leading until the eighth pole. But an improved effort is expected Saturday, especially if the . track remains fast. Dogoon has been to the races only three times this year, and has. one Balmoral seven furlongs victory, that over Besomer. Last year Dogoon was beaten narrowly by Delta in the Myrtlewood. Besomer Hard Luck Horse Besomer has been a hard-luck horse this campaign, failing to win in six- starts but never being worse than, third. His latest was good for second behind Dogoon at _ ~ Balmoral, prior to which he was third in a tight Citation Handicap finish behind Swoons Son and Sea O Erin. He was also second in the Laurel Handicap and third in the Valley Forge, boyth at Garden State. Sea O Erin has not crashed the winners ranks in nine attempts this season, but he has been second four times, all stakes. He comes, off a bang-up second to Swoons Son in the one-mile Citation Handicap, , prior to which he was unplaced in the La Salle and second to Swoons Son in the Churchill Downs Handicap. I Appeal has been working wTell and has one win in seven starts this year, a six- : furlonjg Tropical dash last January, and a second to Decathlon in the Hialeah Inaugural. Good Gesture aims for his fifth win in 14 starts this year, the Count Fleet horse coming off a three-length Balmoral victory two weeks ago. Warbler finished unplaced in the race won by Munchausen. SEA O ERIN— Carries the Hasty House Farms colors in the Myrtlewood Handicap at Arlington Park today.
