Flying Missel in Popular Repeat Score at Jamaica Metropolitan, Suburban Hopeful May Prove Colt of Stake Calibre JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y.. May 4.— King Ranchs Flying Missel gratified the favorite players in the throng of 24.551 at Jamaica today when he drew away from the pack at the head of the stretch to coast to an easy victory in the featured Broad Channel Purse. Phanom Farms Word of Honor finished two and a half lengths behind the son of Equestrian and the same margin before J. J. Amiels Isigny. A. G. Vander-bilts Final Touch and George M. Jacob-sons Alairne completed the field for this mile and a sixteenth affair. Dave Gorman rode Flying Missel, who paid and required 1:46% for the distance. The Broad Channel was a pretty race to watch, though run at a ridiculously slow pace for the first six furlongs, with Alairne setting such pace as there was. The notoriously slow beginner stepped the half in :51, when Word of Honor moved to join him, immediately followed by Final Touch, Isigny and Flying Missel. At the three-furlong pole, the entire field was racing head and head in a compact group, but after a few strides. Alairne dropped out of it. As they straightened away for the run home, Flying Missel took the lead with Continued on Page Tw* Flying Missel in Popular Repeat Score at Jamaica Metropolitan, Suburban Hopeful May Prove Colt of Stake Calibre Continued from Page One ease, while Word of Honor gave futile pursuit. Isigny saved ground, while Final Touch went wide at the head of the stretch which is why they finished in that order. This was Flying Missels second straight score at this meeting in three starts. Last year, he was able to win only once race in 16 starts, but was second a half dozen times, including the Pimlico Cup and Daingerfield Handicap. His only stakes engagements at Belmont Park, the Metropolitan and Suburban Handicaps, seem a little ambitious, but the big chestnut im-pressess as being of stakes caliber. Lester Manor Stables Blue Row, making her first start of the year, led from wire to wire in the six-furlong Garnet Purse that preceded the feature. The daughter of Roman reached the finish two lengths before Russell A. Firestones Valse Bleue, who led Breckinridge Longs favored Lo-raine another length. Sidney S. Schuppers Halcyara finished a half length out of the money after walking away from the gate, rushing up on the outside and continuing to run out at the head of the stretch. Michael Danisi rode Blue Row, who paid 8.40 and was clocked in 1:13. There was a heavy play on Joe W. Browns Red Camelia in the last minutes of wagering, the filly being backed down to 4 to 1, but she stumbled and almost lost John Delahoussaye at the start, then dropped back to last place, where she stayed. Widdimere chased Blue Row to the top of the stretch in the Garnet, as that filly bowled along several lengths in the lead. Valse Bleue was always in contention, moving into third place at the far turn, taking over the pursuit of the leader at the head of the home lane as Widdimere stopped.
