Colonel Doubtful CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville Ky May 4.— Duplicator was the only Kentucky Derby candidate to do anything at all hurried here this morning. The California hope was on the track for a breeze of a half mile and stopped the dockers watches at a flat :49. The going continued very fast. A large gallery of workwatehers thought Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Seleys dark bay son of Beau Pere looked and acted very well. All the other eligibles for the Diamond Jubilee Derby enjoyed a leisurely mornings respite from the long training grind The favored Olympia only walked after his brilliant run in yesterdays Trial, then was ntted out in a new set of shoes. The Hehopolis colt came out of his engagement in fine fettle. He brushed himself and took off a bit of hair but trainer Ivan Parke seemed to think it was scarcely worth mentioning. Owner Fred Hooper was to arrive here in Derbytown tonight to remain over for Saturdays classic. The Derby Trial eliminated two from the starting field for the Derby itself. Ivan Parke said this morning that Ocean Drive will not go and trainer Ben Jones said that he will saddle only Ponder. Probably Steve Brooks will ride the son of the Derby winner, Pensive. At the same time. Jones observed that "Old Ivan seems to have us all over a barrel in this Derby." Petey Cotter came out of the Trial none the worse for wear and he may be a Derby starter. Lextowns trainer, Dave Hum. will confer with owner M. A. Kern today on a rider for his colt. Johns Joy is to gallop tomorrow and blow out Friday or Saturday. Several of the leading aspirants for the Kentucky Oaks Diamond Jubilee renewal went through their paces during work hours today. Mrs. Royce Martins slim Lady Dorimar breezed five furlongs in 1:0435 and her stablemate, Tall Weeds. who won the Ashland Stakes worked five handy furlongs in :47%, and 1:00%. Eddie Arcaro is to ride Tall Weeds, with Conn McCreary astride Lady Dorimar. Louie Haggins high strung Stole put in one of the briskest speed sharpeners of the morn-l ing when she went a handy half in :46Vs. T. F. -JDevereaux homebred Equifox filly. Wirra. also worked for the Oaks, go-; ing a half in :48 and five furlongs in 1:01 very handily. The Oaks this year is ex-,r pected to attract a particularly classy field of three-year-old fillies, one in which Woodvale Farms entry and Calumets Wistful will have much support.
