Trainers of Derby Candidates Guests At Kentucky Breeders1 Assn. Dinner f Visiting Members of Press At Annual Affair Held at Brown Hotel Roof Garden LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 4.— The Kentucky Thoroughbred Breeders Association held its annual pre-Derby dinner at the Brown Hotel Roof Garden last night and had as its special guests, trainers of Derby candidates and visiting members of the press. The program chairman, Clifford Lussky, not only arranged a splendid evening of entertainment, but in cooperation with J. Graham Brown set up a fine table. After president Roscoe Goose, of the turfmens organization opened the meeting, he introduced Lincoln G. Plaut, field director of Daily Racing Form and its associate publications, who did a commendable job with the toastmasters task. Derby trainers on hand were John Gaver Wine List and Capot ; Ben A. Jones Ponder and De Luxe ; Ivan Parke Olym-pia and Ocean Drive ; Tom Smith Model Cadet ; Phil Reilly Old RockporO ; Monte Parke Johns Joy ; Sam Sechrest Duplicator ; Hirsch Jacobs Palestinian ; Dave Hum Lextown ; Woody Stephens Halt and Lester Jenkins Jacks Town. The trainers briefly discussed their Derby candidates chances. With the exception of John M. Goode, who is conditioning Ky. Colonel, and H. C. Wolfe, who is prepping Petey Cotter for the big race, all of the Derby trainers were on hand. Jockey Eddie Arcaro, who has four Derby victories to his credit; Conn Mc-Creary, who successfully handled Pensive in the 1944 renewal of the race, and Ted Atkinson, making his first trip to Derby-town to ride one of the Greentree Stable starters Saturday, were special guests and made short talks.
