Purse Under Handling of Jimmy Breckons By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., May 13.— Grace Kosibas Is There, the longest-priced member of the field, unset calculations here today in the featured Rock X. Purse. The five-year-old gelded son of Omission and Try Come displayed a decided partiality for the prevailing "slow" strip and drove to a game neck decision at the direct expense of the Valenti Stables Lilly Valenti. The latter, in turn, held a convincing two-length margin over Bernard W. Landys Asphalt, who was coupled with her stable-mate, Grand Sunbeam. Mrs. Emil Dene-marks favored Futuramatic finished fourth. Jockey James Breckons, leading rider of the country in the number of winning mounts, was astride Is There, who returned 1.20, 2.80 and .80 across the board. The running time of .1:13% was creditable considering the "off" condition of the track. Asphalt managed to outsprint Lilly Valenti into the first turn as the remainder of the group remained well spread out behind the flying leaders. Asphalt, next to the rail, continued to show the way for the next quarter mile as Lilly Valenti came out in the better part of the track, and inched closer with every stride. Takes Mount to Middle of Track Breckons, aboard the ultimate winner, guided his mount to the middle of the track curving for home and began to wear down the leaders midway the final furlong. Morris Whitebooks Bogalusa was one length farther removed as the assigned distance was completed in 1:20%. Well regarded in the speculation Texas Rain returned .80 in the straight "tote" pool. W. J. Schmidts Osculady proved superior to the capacity group of ordinary platers who met in the first dash. With the veteran, John Adams, doing the booting, Osculady was up in the final strides of the six and one-half furlongs dash to prevail over Flatbush by three-quarters of a length. Big Question was third. Osculady paid 9.40 straight. Kenwood, owned by E. C. Roth, unleashed a powerful stretch rally to account for major honors in the second. Fair Porter held on willingly enough to take the place award one and three-quarter lengths in the wake of the winner and a scant nose before the fast-closing Rebate.
