WERWOLF, slow to gain best stride, rallied when set down for the drive, but was unable to seriously endanger the top one. MUCHO MAS gradually improved his position to attain a contending position at the furlcng marker, then flattened under punishment. RACHEL G., much used early, had little left. Wen driving; second and third the same HOLLY SWEET raced TINA LAZAR into defeat to assume a eear early advantage, tirea slightly when challenged by GAY ROMANCER during the drive, but had enough left to gain the decision. GAY ROMANCER worked his way forward on the outside to the stretch, closed deteminedly and was wearing down the leader. SAILORS CHOICE raced evenly from the three-furlong marker to the stands without mishap. SEA BOB was shuffled back slightly on the far turn and failed to recover. BLUE CHARGER began sluggishly. UPSTROKE, well ridden, slipped through next to the inside rail entering the stretch and, after taking command, won drawing away. DARK ROYAL alternated in setting and pressing the early pace while racing between horses, regained command momentarily inside the furloug marker, but was unable to withstand the winner when the real test came. FLYING JET closed with good courage and perhaps would prefer a longer distance. WIGWAM showed good speed from the start, but failed to respond when placed to pressure. TORTILLA forged to the front briefly when straightened for the drive, then gave way suddenly. SAILING TRIM, forced to take up sharply on the far turn, ntwer regained a contending position. ROYAL VALE, cleverly ridden, moved up boldly on the outside to replace CRAFTY ADMIRAL during the run down the backstretch, gradually increased the advantage to the furlong marker and though shortening stride slightly during the late stages held a clear lead. COLD COMMAND was permitted to settle into best stride during the early running, responded readily when guided to the outside for the stretch run and closed with good courage. ONE COUNT, always within striking distance while apparently racing kindly, was sent into closer contention on the final turn, but failed to make up appreciable ground when hard ridden through the stretch. CRAFTY ADMIRAL held sway for six furlongs while under light restraint, gave way to the winner thereafter, then continued to tire when shaken. GOLDEN GLOVES was unable to keep up. MISS SUBLIME gave way to WHENCE after a half mile, came to the outside for the drive and appeared to be coming again at the finish. WHENCE assumed a clear lead on the far turn, remained on the rail when supplanted by the winner, reached near even terms with the latter at the furlong marker, then tired. TURTLE had no apparent mishap. FAIR BROTHER tired in the going. TURN ROW was outrun, as was BRIGHT PASS. BY PROXY and the others were never dangerous. BLACKTYPE outsprinted his rivals into the first turn, opened a commanding advantage early, began to tire during the stretch run, but had enough left to finish on even terms with SEMOLINA. The latter was sent into closer contention on the far turn, responded to pressure during the drive and was along in the last stride to earn the dead-heat: BAY XASH. unhurried when outrun early, closed with good courage in a sharp effort.
