Alben W. Berkley Forced To Miss Derby Running LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 2.— Former Vice-President Alben W. Barkley joined the list of persons who came to Louisville today to see the Kentucky Derby but didnt get to Churchill Downs. "Here I am with a two -day beard and no clothes, Ill just have to skip it," Barkley telephoned Gov. Lawrence Wetherby of Kentucky. He explained that his clothes were mixed up in flight here from Washington. "I havent even got a shaving kit," Barkley said. It would have been the former Vice-Presidents first Derby in years, and he had planned to attend far in advance.
