Dead Horse Wins Stake Eight-year-old steeplechaser Crisel, who early in the Fontwell Park meeting at Sussex, England, in November appeared in Weatherbys list of official scratchings as "dead," proved he was very much alive in winning the 26-furlong Craigwell Handicap Chase, the first race of the meeting here. The horse had been listed as "dead" and struck from all enagements. but official investigation showed telegraphic error. The error had shocked George Kennedy, trainer of Crisel, who knew the horse was fit and well. Starting at 6 to 1 he made up tremendous amounts of ground to win by a neck in the field of six.
