Deny Jockey B. Pearson English Riding License American Reinsman Turned Down By the BJC Without Explanation LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 2. — Jockey Bill Pearson, prominent West Coast reins -man, who recently flew to Europe to ride for several months, today sent a cablegram to a friend of his in the Los Angeles office of Daily Racing Form, in v/hich he said the British Jockey Club had refused him a license to ride without any explanation. Pearson also said that Lord Derbys intervention on his behalf had been unavailing, adding "the only possible explanation is that American jockeys are not wanted in England." Pearson, who has "been riding for Paddy Prendergast in Ireland in recent weeks and also for Marquis de Courtois in France, said he was granted licenses by both Irish aid French jockey clubs on his arrival in those countries. Pearson also said that as a result of the English action he is returning to America to ride at Hollywood Park. A colorful figure, Pearson owns a fine collection of Mayan art objects and is also a recognized authority on this form of culture. He is also a close friend of the noted film director John Huston and spent a great deal of time with the latter when he filmed "Moulin Rouge" in Paris early last year. Pearson rode C. L. Hirschs Blue Reading to several stakes wins at the last Santa Anita meeting and his knowledge of that son of Reading II. is one of interesting "inside" stories in western racing.
