Mad Saint Closes Fast To Score at Ascot Park Nearly 9,000 Fans Turns Out to See Formful Program of Sport By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 2. — J. E. Hills Mad Saint, came from well off the early pace to take a length decision in one of the better offerings here this afternoon. A good turnout of nearly 9,000 came out to witness the formful racing. Three favorites had scored through the sixth race. Mad Saint, a six-year-old gelded son of Madero was ridden by Kenny Griffith and returned .20 covering the seven furlongs in 1:28. Another Nip was up to garner the place award and finish up a half length in front of the publics choice as ordered. Mad Saint was fourth as the horses left the gate and then dropped back into fifth position as they raced around the clubhouse turn. Jockey Griffith, who has been displaying fine saddle form here, started his move midway down the backstretch and the gelding shot into second position just a length and a half off the favorite. Midway around the final turn the ultimate winner gained the lead and drew clear by daylight at the head of the lane, however in the final sixteenth he started to tire somewhat and Griffith had to go to the whip to keep him going. The fifth race that was captured by Glorys Chance at .20 was married with Marjorie H., falling and breaking her left front leg as she started her move on the far turn. Jockey Freddy Kratz was riding the mare and luckily for him she was next to last at the time of the mishap and was clear of the last horse. Kratz was taken off the track in an ambulance but a report from Dr. Clarke the track physician stated that he was only shaken up which will make his host of fans very happy. Kratz took off the rest of his mounts however.
