GALLANT D., rated for half the trip, moved when ready- after leaving the backstretch and easily passing SNAPHEEL, finished far in front. The latter had the most early speed, and while unable to resist the winner, was clearly best of the others. THE FLIER trailed early and closed considerable ground in the stretch. BELC0N went evenly. SEGREGATE was going well at the finish. WISE ADVISOR threw his head in the air at the start and was off badly, then raced fairlv well. HOT CHOCOLATE tired. BENTONS LUCY had speed from the start wihle racing on the outside of-PARALYTE and was unable to draw clear of the latter until the last thirty yards when she pulled away slowly under pressure. PARALYTE displayed good speed and a fair degree of determination while racing with BENTONS LUCY, but faltered near the finish. NORAS WATCH improved her position in the last quarter and was going steadily at the end. BURNT LOOK held on fairly well. Overweight— Laura J. W., 5 pounds; Gus Fan, 2; Virginia Oaks, 1; Narcisse, 4. LITTLE BOOKIE was under restraint for a half mile, then moved on the outside and taking comamnd rounding the stretch turn, drew out gradually in the stretch. EPERC lacked much early speed, but came strongly in the middle of the track in the stretch. COPETE was outrun to the stretch, then came strongly. PAD LOCK had no excuse and tired. NEVERLATOR was not rushed in the early running, but came strongly after entering the stretch to take command nearing the end and won going away under urging. BLUE LICKS lacked early speed, but made a belated run through the stretch and was gaining. BUSY FOX had the most early speed and held on fairly well in the final drive. Won driving: second and third the same HUMPHREY was always close to the pace, and taking command when JEAN THE JOKER began to weaken, gamely withstood the stretch challenge from ROMAN VULCAN and held him to the end to win narrowly. The latter lacked much early speed, but came steadily in the final quarter and just failed to get up. PERFECT SWEEP made a fair move in the stretch and was going well at the end. ECHO ROCK raced along nicely some distance back of the pacesetter in the first five furlongs, then moved strongly when called upon to easily get to the front near the finish. FINE FETTLE was outrun early, but closed fast and gamely. VERY SPECIAL opened up a long lead in the first quarter and was far in front entering the last quarter, but tired badly in the stretch. EN FLEUR was inclined to race wide in the early part, but retained a forward position, and making a strong run nearing the stretch turn, headed the field to draw out in the stretch. WHIRLAHEAD, an early trailer, made a resolute run after leaving the back-stretch and went well to the finish, but was no match for the winner. ALBEMARLE lacked much early speed and dropped back to last place after going half the trip, but raced steadily in the late stages and was going well at the finish. BLUNT was fairly well up all the way. LADY INDIAN tired. TATTENHAM weakened after making a mild move. McGRATHIANA stopped badly. Scratched— 85039 Cross Ring, 113; 85039 Can Locate, 108. STREAMLINER went to the front early and well rated while making the pace, withstood several mild challenges to win under hand riding. OAK RIVER made a resolute attempt in the last quarter and, while outfinishing THE PHOENIX, was unable to seriously threaten the winner. THE PHOENIX was also rated early and responded fairly well when called upon, but was not good enough. HEDGEWOOD dropped back to last place after breaking fairly well, then tired when it came to an issue. BOSTON HERO had some early speed. The others were outpaced.
