Constitution Handicap Next Suffolk Feature Epic King Ready to Make Amends In 0,000 Event for Sophomores SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass-May 2. — The third week of racing at this point will hightlight the seventeenth running of the Constitution Handicap, a mile and one - sixteenth test exclusively for three-year-olds, which will be run next Saturday. The sophomore handicap, which was worth ,000 last year, was increased to ,500 before the present meeting opened, and was jumped again last week to- a 0,000 event. It will be an overnight handicap with nominations remaining open until late Wednesday and restricted to the thoroughbreds on the grounds. It so happens that the Downs has the most promising group of three -year -olds in years, which means that Saturdays feature should provide tops in racing. There are many horsemen who believe that Mrs. J. H. Woodcocks Epic King, who ran a disappointing fourth in his local debut in the Faneuil Hall sprint as a favorite, will make amends here. In that race. Epic King gave away from eight to 17 pounds and lacked his usual speed. This sophomore, however, has plenty of class and could improve greatly. He won five races last year and in his last nine starts in 1952, he was out of the money only twice, never finishing worse than second in the other seven starts. Epic King raced only once this year prior to the Faneuil, being fourth to such standout three-year-olds as Correspondent, Money Broker and Mr. Paradise. C. H. Everitts Supreme Bub. a recent second in the Arkansas Derby and the easiest kind of winner in his Downs debut last week over six furlongs, is expected to contest the Constitution. I. Cowans Wise Dog. a successful sophomore campaigning in Florida this past winter, is also expected to go Saturday. Other possibilities include R. W. Collins Star Chief, J. M. Grieves Miss Joanne. Mrs. J. M. Branhams Four Night, H. Forrests Triumphant, J. Passarellis Coherence and Mrs. A. C. Robertsons Army Pal.
