Plain Betty Gets Home By Two at Fort Miami Sets Own Pace While Showing Way to Honey Bill, Lady Kelzin FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 2.— An estimated crowd of 7,285 racing patrons witnessed a parade of track records in the opening portion of the racing activity at Fort Miami today. The inception of the six furlongs chute caused successive records to be set in the second, third and fourth races with W. B. Jones Plain Betty making the best time of the day in the fourth race, when she sped from the six furlongs chute in 1 : 133/5, while triumphing by two lengths. Previously Dame Polly had lowered the mark set in the second race when she raced the three-quarters in 1:14%, which was a short lived moment of glory for the daughter of Sir Damion — Idle Polly. Plain Betty was lightly held in the wagering and returned 4.80 for her record performance as she carried Kenny Chapman to his seventh victory at the Maumee meeting. The new distance proved quite popular with the Detroit-Toledo fans, who have been supporting this meeting in large numbers on Saturdays and they roared their l. appreciation when the first field was sent away from the barrier across the infield. Dale Winks 10-year-old horse, King Gail, showed his heels to the younger generation, winning the second race by two and a half lengths at the close of the first six furlongs race at the Maumee track. King Gail toured the six furlongs in track record time of 1:14%, paying a liberal 9.80 to his followers. Those in the crowd who were fortunate enough to couple King Gail with the winner of the first race, Bonesciana, who was a three-lengths winner of the opener, picked up a neat 79.00 for their Daily Double confidence.
