Grover B. Finds Sloppy Suffolk Track to Liking Whips Topweighted Larry Ellis Decisively in Plymouth Rock By AVERY BROWN Stajf Correspondent i SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston. Mass.. May 2. — Grover B., successfully earning j the silks of his Texas owner, T. P. Morgan. annexed the 0,000 Plymouth Rock Handicap here this afternoon in easy fashion. Confidently ridden by the veteran Frankie Zehr, who had piloted the Blue Swords gelding in New Orleans this past winter. Grover B. splashed through the sloppy mile and sixteenth to finish four and one-half lengths before the favored Larry Ellis, from the barn of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Linile. It was another length back to Red Head Sta-; bles Futuresquc. Little Imp, George W. W. and Villager completed the field and fin-I ishod in the order named. Suffering from the tail-end of the nor- I easter which has been whipping the East ; Coast the past couple of days. Suffolk j Downs was a miserable place to spend an afternoon, but 20,654 braved the elements and divided their support between Grover B. and Larry Ellis, with the latter closing as the choice. The winning backers received .20 on the Morgan geldings, who was clocked in a respectable 1:47*5. The triumph in the Plymouth Rock was the second stakes score for Grover B. He ! had triumphed in the San Marcos Handi-j cap at Santa Anita before shipping from California. The ,500 net to the winner today gives the Morgan ace a total of 0,600 earnings to date this season. The only thrill derived in the running I of the Plymouth Rock was when the fol-| lowers of the ultimate winner watched their choice move away from Villager rounding 1 the turn out of the backstretch and quickly moving into a five or six lengths lead. While that was taking place Dick McLaughlin had Larry Ellis moving in his best stride, but, as usual, the Easy Mon gelding took the overland route and, while he managed to make up about a length on the leader, there wasnt any doubt as to the victory as the field straightened for the run through the stretch. Ralph Lowes Pictus. regarded as one of the top sprinters in this sector, added another victory to his laurels with a score in tus, however, had his work cut out for him the dash which preceded the feature. Picas the field of five were closely bunched turning into the stretch, with the Pictoi stallion cought on the extreme outside. He managed to make the bend without losing any more ground than was necessary, and when Jimmy Davern straightened him out. i he went to the task of overhauling Irving Whites High Head to gain a length margin
