Derby Day Crowd Presents Cross Section of America The Great and Humble on Hand To Witness Nations No. 1 Race By OSCAR OTIS CHURCHILL DOWNS. Louisville, Ky., May 2. — It has often been said that a Derby crowd is a cross section of America, and so it proved once again today for the seventy-ninth running of the world-famous classic. The great and the humble, from all walks of life, gathered to pay homage to the thoroughbred and bore out the statement, made by Admiral Rous more than 100 years ago, that "All are equal on the turf and under it."
