Sixty-Two Nominations For Hollywood Gold Cup Calumet Names Six As It Tries For Third Win in Row in Stake HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif.. May 9. — Sixty-two world-famed thoroughbreds, over half of them stakes winners, have been nominated for the 00,000 net-guaranteed-to-the-winner Hollywood Gold Cup. This mile and a quarter international classic will be run Saturday, July 11. Hollywood Parks fourteenth thoroughbred 50-day racing season will open Tuesday, May 12. The Hollywood Gold Cup is the only race in the world for which 00,000 net is guaranteed the winner. The race will gross approximately 37,000 of which about 12,000 will be added by the Hollywood Turf Club. Calumet Farm, winner of the last two Gold Cup runnings with Citation and Two Lea respectively, were the biggest nominators, listing A Gleam, last years "Horse of the meeting at Hollywood Park, Fleet Bird, Dixie Lad, Chanlea, Lap Full and Right Bright. All but Fleet Bird are stakes winners, and he was a close second to his stablemate, Mark-Ye-Well, in the Maturity last winter. Chanlea, Lap Full and Right Bright have been made eligible for the Gold Cup. Among the top eastern nominees is Mrs. E. DuPont Weirs Royal Vale, winner of last Saturdays Gallant Fox Handicap at Jamaica and the Miami Beach Handicap in March at Hialeah over may ranking eastern stakes stars.
