COUNTESS IN was saved within striking distance of the leaders to the final quarter, then moved up on the outside and, getting to the front at midstretch, drew out slowly near the end. TEST PATTERN alternated with BUGLE CORPS in setting the pace while racing on the outside of the latter and bested him in the final drive. BUGLE CORPS was well rated but had little left at the end. WOODSIDE moved up strongly after entering the stretch and was pressing at the end. LITTLE BOOKIE, outrun early, made a strong run on the outside after leaving the backstretch, but lost much ground on the final turn. THE PHOENIX went evenly. FRIEND FRANKIE tired.
