SURPRISING turned back the determined challenge of BLUE FEDORA and held sway under pressure. SAUCY PLAY, slow to settle into stride, closed fastest of all when able to move between horses in the final stages. BLUE FEDORA held on gamely after being formidable from the start. MAD MARIE lacked the necessary response after racing within striking distance throughout. BLAZING was unable to enter contention. KINGS TIP broke badly. ORB turned in a miserable effort. COLUMCILLE failed to menace the top pair while rallying mildly. DIDAPPER rallied too late to threaten. RAYS PRIDE was sluggish early. MR. SNOOP could not keep pace. REVEILLE, steadied while in close attendance to the pace, moved on the final turn to menace the leader, then weakened. FLAG REQUEST made up ground gradually, as did SNOWFLARES. SIR LOPEZ weakened after a mild rally on the final turn. TAMPERO, taken under restraint when outrun for the early lead, failed to rally when roused. RECLUSE gave way badly. ABRACADABRA improved his position when urged, but was no match for the winner. ETERNAL SIR moved boldly in the early stretch, but lacked further response. ISLE OF BOND failed to reach contention. MUSCOVADO tired. ROMAN DRGY raced with the pace to the stretch and quit. STALWART SON flattened out badly. HOME FLEET stopped to a walk after a brief display of speed. ROYAL VALE, allowed to lag well behind the early pace, responded willingly when roused leaving the three-eighths pole, circled the field boldly and won under stout restraint. GOLD COMMAND drove into a slight lead briefly with a quarter of a mile to go, but was no match for the winner. CRAFTY ADMIRAL, steadied when outrun by ANCESTOR, moved when asked to race for the lead with COLD COMMAND, then gave way. ANCESTOR gave way after having been responsible for the pace.
