Merkle Called Home CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 9. — Bill Merkle, a key member of the Harry M. Stevens staff, has been called to his home in Ridgefield, New Jersey, due to Mrs. Merkles illness. Omero Catan, of the Stevens organization, flew in from New York to handle Merkles task for the balance of the Churchill Downs spring meeting.
