FRANK E. JIMMY KILROE ; ■ 1 1 1 ; Kilroe Virtually Certain For Santa Anita Position Will Succeed Everett as Racing Secretary Says Reliable Source LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 9.— Frank E. "Jimmy" Kilroe of New York is virtually certain to succeed Webb Everett as racing secretary at Santa Anita Park, although no official announcement has been made by Dr. Charles H. Strub, it was learned today from a reliable source. Everett resigned his post this week to accept a position as director, vice-president and general manager of the new race track at Las Vegas, Nev. Kilroe was assistant racing secretary at Santa Anita last year and currently holds the same position under John B. Campbell at the New York tracks. He will return as racing secretary for the forthcoming meetings at Arlington and Washington Parks in Chicago. Kilroe, 42, is considered one of the outstanding young handicappers on the turf. He comes from a racing family, his father, Dr. Edward P. Kilroe being chairman of the board of the Metropolitan Jockey Club, which operates Jamaica race track, and treasurer of Aqueduct, and his brother, Edward L., secretary of Aqueduct. Frank began his career in racing in 1936 when he was offered a post in Campbells office, soon becoming the New York handi-cappers key assistant. His work in aiding Campbell determine weights and conditions for leading stake events attracted widespread attention. In 1949, Benjamin Lind-heimer, of Arlington-Washington, arranged with the New York tracks to "borrow" Kilroes services as racing secretary for a three-year period. He served in Chicago through the 1951 season and then returned to his post in New York. Last year he was brought out to California to be Everetts assistant. With the resignation of Ivan Thomas as secretary at the Chicago tracks, Lindheimer has obtained Kilroe on "emergency loan" from the New York associations to return to his old post at Arlington and Washington this season.
