Shoemaker Rides Five More Winners at Tanforan Track TANFORAN, San Bruno, Calif., May 9. — Jockey Willie Shoemaker kept up on Friday the torrid pace he has been setting during the entire Tanforan meeting by bringing home another five winners out of the eight mounts he rode during the afternoon. In addition, he was third on another mount. During the last two days here, Shoemaker has had 16 mounts, won 10, was second once and third once. In all, he has had 91 winners at the meeing and with another day to go has set a new record for a northern California track. With winners previously accumulated at the Santa Anita meeting, he is now the leader in tch national jockeys race by a wide margin, having 152 winners, and looms a strong possibility to reach 400 winners during the year, a mark heretofore never attained in American racing annals. The present mark now stands at 390 winners, a record set by Tony DeSpirito in 1952.
