Fort Miami Meeting Enters Final Week Speedy Debonaire Appears to Hold Edge Oyer Leaping Moose FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 9.— Thoroughbred racing heads into the final week of the 25-day spring meeting at Fort Miami Monday with everything running smoothly and prospects for a record-breaking meeting very secure. Confidence in the sport here is reflected by the 23 per cent increase in mutuel play and the daily crowd of regular patrons from Detroit and nearby Toledo. The management is already planning improvements in the operation of the plant for future dates. The City of Toledo Purse is the top attraction on Mondays card with eight sprinters named overnight to meet at the five-furlong distance. Topping the field is C. B. Sperrys consistent sprinter, Debonaire, who will be seeking her third straight win at the five-furlong distance, which seems to be the matrons pet distance. She will be opposed in the main event by Leaping Moose and Merit, a pair of trusty geldings, while Due Date, Unanimous, Green Chip, Sun It and Velvet Bound complete the field. Debonaire lost a close decision to Leaping Moose in her first outing at the Key Street course, but came right back to take two sprints in succession while the aged gelding tailed off his early form. The seven-year-old daughter of Petrose — Transfer Miss can set the pace or close through the late stages, and with her regular rider, Leon Hulslander slated to. ride, Debonaire will be hard to handle in the Toledo. Leaping Moose, who has been an Ohio favorite, possesses an alarming turn of early speed, though has been stopping in his later years. Merit was an impressive three lengths winner of his last outing and will be seeking to improve his rating by a victory over these slightly better racers. Of the others, Green Chip is looked to for some speed in the race, but the rest are in the ranks of outsiders.
