Work on Earfy Details For Dade Park Meet OWENSBORO, Ky., June 9. The Dade Park Jockey Club, with offices located here, is busy making preparations for the 1954 summer racing meet for the Western Kentucky establishment. The dates approved by the Kentucky Racing Commission are from Wednesday, August 4, through Monday, Labor Day, September 6. Racing secretary L. H. Van Zandt has started his spring tour of the various tracks in this part of the country to line up some of the better stables campaigning in this area. Van Zahdt is a veteran figure around the American turf and is noted for his ability to round up stables with thoroughbreds in condition for a 29-day meeting. Applications for stalls have been pouring into the local offices and long before the bugle calls the horses to the post for the August program it is expected that all the stalls will be occupied. James C. Ellis, president and general manager of the Dade Park Jockey Club, spent the winter months in Florida and Arkansas attending the winter racing programs and owners of a number of good stables at Sunshine Park and Oaklawn Park assured him they would be on hand for the summer meeting at Dade Park.
