Wightman Cup Net Play ! To Get Under Way Friday Favor Americans to Win Title For Eighteenth Straight Time LONDON, England, June 9 UP. Maureen "Little Mo" Connolly and Doris Hart, the Americans who rank 1-2 in womens international tennis, each drew two singles assignments today for the Wightman Cup competition between the United States and Britain at Wimbledon Friday and Saturday. Miss Connolly, Wimbledon and United States singles champion from San Diego, Calif., will play the first singles match against Helen Fletcher. Miss Hart, former Wimbledon titleholder from Coral Gables, Fla., will meet Ann Shilcock in the other opening day singles contest. On Saturday Miss, Connolly will meet Miss Shilcock in the second singles match, while Miss Hart will wind up the singles play against Miss Fletcher. Saturdays first contest will pit Louise Brough, former Wimbledon and U. S. titleholder from Beverly Hills, Calif., against Angela Buxton in the other singles match. Miss Brough and Mrs. Margaret Osborne DuPont of Wilmington, Del., will end Fridays card by meeting Miss Buxton and Pat Hird in doubles. A doubles contest matching Miss Hart and Shirley Fry of Akron, Ohio, against Miss Fletcher and Miss Shilcock will end the best-of-seven series Saturday. Both U. S. doubles teams are current or former U. S. and Wimbledon champions. The U. S. "is heavily favored to win the cup for the 18th straight time and for the 22d time in 26 renewals. Britain hasnt won a series since 1930. All members of the American team are experienced in Wightman Cup competition and only Miss Fry of the U. S. squad ever has lost a singles match in the series. The U. S. shut out the British girls, 7-0, for the last two years.
