Blue Shore Gains Close Decision at ThistleDown Photo Finish Shows Emerald Hill Gelding Nose Ahead of Little Imp By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 9. The Emerald Hill Stables Blue Shore, given an excellent ride by apprentice Walter Blum, scored" a stirring nose decision over the onrushing Little Imp in the featured Forest City Purse here this afternoon. Abbywood Stables favored Spy Defense was third, .another seven lengths back at the wire. Apprentice Blum was scoring his second success of the afternoon. The winner was timed in 1:45 for the mile and a sixteenth. Blue Shore was the third choice and paid .80. A crowd of 5,552 turned out to witness the eight-race program with perfect weather conditions prevailing. Avella, Tin TvH and Piparoo completed the field. The ultimate winner drew to a head Spy Defense while midway around the final turn and was responding gamely to Blums left-handed urging. Little Imp was third, another length and one-half back. Blue Shore gained the lead entering the stretch, and at the furlong station was showing the way by one length, with Spy Defense second and Little Imp on the extreme outside, a close third. Piparoo was fourth, but did not appear to be a contender. Through the stretch Blum continued to whip the Blue Swords gelding left-handed, and Little Imp moved with a rush, and it appeared as though he would take the lead before the end. However, Blue Shore had just enough left and gained the narrowest of decisions. Spy Defense flattened out badly in the final sixteenth of a mile. Blue Shores other tally was a dead heat with American Pluck while at Pimlico over the grass course. As a matter of fact, most of the geldings races have been contested on the greensward. V. V. Long, Sr.s, Alcova, a good looking son of Gray Dream, scored his second straight victory over the track, when he squeezed out a thrilling nose decision over "Buddy" Hamars Snubbed and jockey Fred Ryan. Albert Widman rode a strong race aboard the winner, who paid .40 as the top-heavy choice and was timed in 1:00, the best five furlongs of the meeting. E. H. Lanes Deck Cherry was third, another three parts of a length back. The favorite players had a few anx- ious moments when a foul was claimed against the winner. Alcova did drift out somewhat through the stretch, but it was hardly enough to warrant the stewards taking down the number. Lawrence W. Jennings Air Count, ridden by apprentice Walter Blum, scored a front-running four-length tally over Surprise Lady in the fourth race. Fixed Charge, sporting the colors of C. B. Fischbach, was third another length and a quarter back" at the end of the mile and one-sixteenth. Air Count paid .00 and was timed in 1:47 for the best time of the session. The Daily Double paid 01.00 as R. Roy McClarins homebred, General Cross, accounted for the first race and Mrs. Sally Simpsons Mr. Hurry the second events, ,
