I Bloomington Engages Well-Balanced Field Gold Fighter, Crossbow Girl, Pride of Judea Match Strides By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., June 9. Eight sprinters will match strides in the Bloomington, an allowance event, on Thursday nights card of nine races. The feature brings together a well-balanced field to vie at six furlongs, and the main contention appears to lie between the Shadybrook Farm Stables Gold Fighter, the recent winner Crossbow Girl and Pride of Judea, also a winner at the current meeting. Gold Fighter will be making his first start this year since his two poor performances at Hawthorne last fall. His last two races were not the best, due to the fact that he was breaking badly. Going back to a race here at Fairmount Park last September, in which he won a six-furlong dash by 10 lengths to establish a new track record of 1:10, he must rule the favorite over this field. His stable reports him over his bad manners at the starting gate and he is expected to give a top performance in the Bloomington. Coming back fresh off a winning race is the fleet four-year-old filly, Crossbow Girl, owned by the Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Holman stable. This filly isnt too fast away from the starting gate, but once she gets into her stride she can really fly. In her winning effort last week she won by a nose over a heavy racing strip. The Holman filly can also give a good performance on a fast track. Pride of Judea, owned by J. Gaylord has been racing with much better horses, and from his best performance here at this meeting, especially his winning race, he rates a good chance against this type of field. His winning race was at six furlongs, in which he won by two lengths over Red Rudolph and Val Vez, a top performance, as he ran the six furlongs in 1:11 after having started slowly. .Others In the Bloomington are Whiz-A-Bit, Bright Imp, Coral Princess, Mary H. and the newcomer to the Collinsville course, Cross End, owned by Earl Brown. After five unsuccessful races here at this meeting the Ellis and Vogelsang five-year-old Desefolks finally made good when he accounted for the Pine Lawn Purse before a good week night crowd of 6,700 fans. Ridden by apprentice Carl Daigrepont, the son of Chaldese got away next to last from the starting gate, but under constant urging moved up with a fast move rounding the stretch turn while saving ground. Daigrepont hustled his mount through on the inside of the leaders a sixteenth out to take a short lead and, being a little the best, he had a three-quarters length lead at the finish. Bat Girl, a "field" horse racing in the interest of M. Whitebook, took second money, while Cavalier Trim accounted for the show money. Time for the six furlongs was 1:11, and the winner, overlooked by the fans, paid the large mutuel of 1.80.
